When you export video with rendered or 'burned-in' subtitles, it is important to use a video format which has a sufficiently high resolution and bitrate to avoid encoding artefacts. This article explains how to configure the resolution of the video for the export with rendered subtitles in the workspace settings. By default, the maximum resolution of the video export with rendered subtitles is 1280x720.
Before you Begin
The ability to export video with Burned-in or Rendered Subtitles is a premium option which is not switched on by default. Please contact your system administrator to make sure this option is made available.
Secondly, considering that subtitles may have sharp edges that are relatively hard to encode without encoding artefacts or encoding errors, you will mostly pick the highest possible resolution as input of the encoding process. As an alternative, you may want to increase the image resolution of the proxy.
Please note that, in order to do so, you need at least Workspace Admin permissions.
Adding a Specific Media Encoding Profile for Rendering Subtitles
To make available a new image profiles available while exporting a version of your video with burned in subtitles, go to the Media Encoding settings in the Workspace Settings.
1. Go to the Media Encoding section of the Workspace Settings
2. Create a new Media Encoding Profile
You can either
- Add a new encoding profile or
- Clone and edit an existing one by clicking via the three dots ('...') next to the encoding profile.
3. Edit the Media Encoding Settings
Upon creation of a new media encoding profile, you can access the details of the settings including the image aspect ratio, the details of the codec used, and the bitrate.
Assuming you are willing to use a video quality which is high enough to avoid encoding artefacts, depending on the type of content, you may want to increase the bitrate from 2 to 4 or even 10Mbps for high-definition formats (1280x720 pixels).
4. Using the Newly Created Encoding Profile when Rendering Subtitles
The newly created encoding profile will be available to select as an output profile when exporting the version of your video with burned in subtitles.
