Two-factor authentication (2FA), sometimes referred to as two-step verification or dual-factor authentication, is an extra layer of security that is added to an account.
When 2FA is enabled, the login screen will ask a one-time token in addition to the username and password. This token is generated using an Authenticator app on your phone, and is valid for only 30 seconds. This makes it much harder for anyone to access your account if your password would be compromised.
Enabling 2FA on your profile
To enable 2FA on your Limecraft profile, you need to click in the top right corner on the profile icon and go to 'Manage profile'.
On the right side, you can see the section 'Security login options'. There you will find the option 'Enable 2FA'. Click that to start the process.
The first thing you will be asked to do, is to sign in with you normal credentials. Hit 'continue'.
Next, you will see a QR code on your screen. You will need to open your Authenticator app and scan this code. Alternatively, you can also click 'show secret key' to enter this into your Authenticator app. We would advise you to scan the QR code though, it is the easiest way to set up 2FA.
There are several Authenticator apps to choose from:
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- ...
We will show you the process of using Google Authenticator just below. You can download the Google Authenticator in the Android Play Store here or in the App Store for Mac here.
If you don't have Google Authenticator on your phone yet, go to your App Store or Play Store and download it. When you open the app, you will have to click 'Get started'.
The next screen you will see, will ask you to set up your first account. This is where you will need to click "Scan a QR code" to establish the link with your Limecraft profile.
After you have scanned the QR code, you will get a six-digit verification code. This code has to be entered in Limecraft Flow. You only have 30 seconds until this code expires, so if you see that you only have a few seconds left, feel free to wait until a new code appears and you have more time to enter it.
Once you've entered that code, the system will verify it and set up 2FA. This could take a minute, but the page will automatically refresh once the process has been completed.
When 2FA is set up, you will receive a confirmation, as seen below. Well done, you have now successfully added a 2FA to your Limecraft account!
If you go back to your profile now, you will see that is says "Two-Factor authentication (2FA) is enabled".
If you ever want to disable 2FA, you can also do that here by clicking "Disable 2FA" and following the process.
Logging into Flow with 2FA
Once 2FA is set up, the login process will look a bit different. It will consist of three steps:
- Entering your username or email address
- Entering your password
- Entering the verification code from your Authenticator app
Note that you don't need to scan the QR code every time that you want to log into Flow, that is only necessary to set up the 2FA process.
Once you have done these three steps, you will be logged into your Flow account.
Note that, as seen in the screenshot below, you can also click "Send my token via email". In case you don't have your phone close by, you can always request the code to be sent to you via email.
Logging into Edge
In Edge, you will see a new 'Login with Flow' option in the login screen. To use this, simply select the correct licence you want to use in Edge, then click ‘Login with Flow’.
Clicking this will open Limecraft Flow in a browser and ask you to log in. Make sure to log in with a user who has access to the account corresponding to the Edge licence you selected!
After logging in, the page will redirect you back to Edge where you will be logged in and good to go!
