Limecraft Edge is a powerful, on-set ingest and backup tool designed specifically for DITs, edit assistants, and production teams managing large volumes of footage. It goes far beyond basic file transfer. Edge ensures your rushes are checksum-verified, properly synced, organized, and readily available in your workspace for review and editing.

This article shows the easy steps to transfer and transcode your files to your preferred destinations.

Before You Begin

Make sure to:

Ingest Steps

1. Select Files

Choose the files you want to ingest, typically a full card you've just offloaded.

2. Select Destination(s)

Click "Add Destination" for each ingest job you want to run at the same time. You can select multiple destinations, including Limecraft Workspace and mapped storage volumes.

If you want to transcode files to a storage volume, ensure the volume is properly mapped in the Edge system settings of your desktop app.

To streamline the process, you can configure destination templates for your project.

3. Start the Ingest

When you're ready, click Start to begin the ingest and transcoding process.

Monitoring the Process

  • You can monitor progress directly in the interface or by opening the JOBS window from the upper toolbar.
  • By default, Edge runs two transcoding jobs in parallel. Large cards may take some time to process, so plan accordingly.
  • Your clips will begin appearing in Limecraft Workspace shortly after ingest starts, though they may not be immediately playable.
  • For detailed status updates, refer to the Workflow section in the clip’s info panel.

Library Views with Metadata

Once the viewing proxies are uploaded to Limecraft Workspace, you can take advantage of Library Views and grouping options to organize your material more efficiently.

These views allow you to quickly access different layouts or filters based on the metadata you've applied, making it easier to navigate large volumes of footage.

For example:

  • You can create a Library View that organizes your material by Episode > Scene > Shot, giving you a clear structure at a glance.

  • Alternatively, with just one click, you can group your material into multicam sets, streamlining playback and review for multi-camera shoots.

These flexible views help you stay organized and speed up the process of reviewing, tagging, and prepping content for post-production.
