This article explains how you can use audio and an existing text file to create an accurately time-coded transcription

Find the Go to transcript action on a clip thumbnail and click it.

When you open the Transcript for a clip which has not been transcribed, you’ll see a window similar to the one below:

When entering the transcription application, Limecraft shows a large player on the left hand side, a call to action to select the language and start AI transcription, and a bar of controls at the bottom.

2. Aligning an existing transcript

If you have an existing text file that contains the (non timed) transcription, you can use the second option in order to get a timed transcription. Click on "Align text" and a pop-up will let you select the file in question.

How to prepare your transcript?

To ensure successfully aligning your transcript with the video, please pay attention to the following Do's and Don't's.

Do:

  • Use a UTF-8 encoded txt file.
  • Only spoken text (no time codes, no speakers).
  • One sentence on each line (with punctuation marks).

Don’t:

  • Use different languages (the whole text must be in one language).
  • Include sound descriptions, such as “loud crash”, “struggling”.
  • Include speaker labels.
  • Include timecodes.
  • Include markup (colors, tables, etc).

The following could cause issues. We don't recommend taking these out or changing these at the first try, but take a look at them in case the transcript doesn’t come out as desired:

  • Sentences containing the dutch “ ‘k “ instead of “ ik “

Include Speaker Segmentation

With the following markup language, you can include speaker segmentation in your transcription results.

SPEAKER: speaker name

Transcript paragraph

SPEAKER: speaker name

Transcript paragraph

An example

SPEAKER: ILSA

But what about us?

SPEAKER: RICK

We'll always have Paris. We didn't have, we, we lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night.

SPEAKER: ILSA

When I said I would never leave you.

SPEAKER: RICK

And you never will. But I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that.

3. Mark quotes

If you want to use the transcript to mark interesting parts and create quotes, click the VIEW button. Also make sure that the subclips sidebar is visible by clicking the subclips button in the top right corner:

The interface now contains a player at the left, the subclips sidebar at the right and the transcript in the middle.

Note: The player controls and the subclips sidebar are explained in detail here. This article is about using the transcript text to create subclips.

Creating a new subclip using the transcript is as easy as marking the text in the transcript, and then clicking the ‘add subclip’ button.

The timing is filled in automatically, and the quote is included. You can add a description with tags and mentions as usual.

4. Change your work area

At the top right corner of the application, you’ll find the help buttons and some toggles to show or hide panes in the application.

Go ahead and try clicking some of the buttons. Click the button again to revert the action. For example, you can hide the video if you have a small screen or if you just prefer it that way.

The help button on the far right will show a menu with a ‘talk to us’ option. Click it to get in touch! We like to help you out if you get stuck for some reason, and we like to hear your experiences with the application!
